Acupuncture
Acupuncture, a foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine, involves the insertion of small hair-thin needles into specific points to stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities.
When needles are inserted in acupuncture points it can initiate molecular changes at the cellular level, affecting the nervous system, immune system, circulatory system, amongst others.
Acupuncture can treat a myriad of conditions and is a strong preventative medicine when practiced regularly. It is powerful tool to treat the body as a whole, promoting physical, mental, and emotional health.
E-Stim
E-stim, short for electrical stimulation, involves applying light electrical current to a set of needles to help with certain conditions. The frequency and intensity of the current is adjusted according to treatment plan, but the sensation is generally very subtle.
E-stim is widely used to aid in musculoskeletal pain relief and recovery from injury but its benefits also broaden to neurological conditions and mental and emotional health.
Moxa
Moxibustion is a technique that involves burning a Chinese herb called Moxa (Mugwort) over acupuncture points to help treat deficiencies, increase Qi flow, and provide internal warmth to the body.
Moxa can also be used as a safe technique to turn a breach baby.
Cupping
Cupping involves the use of suction placed on the skin’s surface to pull tissue up in a somewhat reverse massage.
I provide both sliding cupping (moving the cups across an area of the body) as well as stationary cupping (leaving the cups placed on a specific area). Both methods help to release pain and muscle tension, promote healthy blood flow, aid in drainage and detox, and increase the healing response.
Gua Sha
In this therapeutic scraping massage technique, pain and tension in the muscle tissues is relieved by bringing stagnant blood or ‘sha’ to the superficial areas of the skin in order to be eliminated.
Gua sha is often used to treat painful conditions such as neck, back, and shoulder pain and can also be a helpful tool to strengthen the immune system at the onset of colds.
Vibrational Sound Healing
Vibration is an integral part of how energy moves through our bodies.
I often utilize tuning forks during treatments to facilitate a natural flow of Qi in the body and to further calm the nervous system for a relaxing and grounding experience.
Chinese Herbal Medicine
Like acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine has been utilized for thousands of years to relieve symptoms of various types and promote recovery from numerous ailments impacting the mind or body.
Being an all-natural source of medicine, herbal formulas are very safe and virtually free of potentially harmful side-effects.
As a board-certified herbalist, I provide patent or individualized custom formulas that will address both current symptoms as well as constitutional tendencies toward health imbalances.
